Coconut Charcoal
The coconut charcoal is produced by burning shells of fully matured coconuts in limited supply of air which is sufficient only for carbonization, but not for complete destruction of the shells. The exact output of coconut shell charcoal in the traditional pith method is approximately below 33 per cent of the weight of the original coconut shells In order to obtain good high quality charcoal, fully sun dried, clean, mature shells are used.

Coconut charcoal is widely used in several industries such as
1. Mining and metallurgy - used as reducing agent,
2. Pharmaceutical:
Charcoal was consumed in the past as dietary supplement for gastric problems in the form of charcoal biscuits. Now it can be consumed in tablet, capsule or powder form, for digestive benefits. Charcoal absorbs gases and toxins to help heartburn, flatulence or indigestion
3. Water purification and filtration
Charcoal may be activated to increase its effectiveness as a filter. Activated charcoal readily adsorbs a wide range of organic compounds dissolved or suspended in gases and liquids. Charcoal is often used to filter water to remove bacteria and undesired tastes. In certain industrial process, such as the purification of sucrose from cane sugar, impurities cause an undesirable color, which can be removed with activated charcoal.
4. Horticulture
As a soil conditioner; turning unproductive soil into very rich soil.
Fil Kolins has 3 major processing sites with a combined capacity of 24 tons a day or 720 tons a month. It has established networks of buying stations through out the Philippines to support the required raw materials for the production of granulated charcoal.
